I love binging travel shows for three very specific reasons:
1. Instant wanderlust fuel.
They give me ideas for future trips—especially when they feature a place I’ve never been. On the flip side, sometimes I get that “okay, definitely skipping that destination” vibe. I’m extra into shows that explore those underrated, off-the-guidebook spots you don’t see plastered all over Instagram.
2. Built-in nostalgia trips.
When a show takes me back to a place I’ve already visited, it’s like reliving my own vacation. Seeing familiar streets and landmarks feels like watching my home videos—except, you know, not filmed with shaky hands on a dying phone battery.
3. The best cure for not being on a plane.
One of the main reasons I travel is to experience new cultures, places, and vibes. But when I can’t pack my suitcase, travel shows are the next best thing. Sure, it’s not the same as being there, but it scratches the itch—at least until I can hop on my next flight.
Some of my go-to travel shows:
Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted – Travel + food = my happy place. Also, in my head, I’m a bargain-bin Gordon Ramsay. IMDb
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations – The perfect mix of cooking, culture, and adventure. RIP legend. IMDb
The Amazing Race – Bite-sized glimpses of the world with a dash of competitive chaos. IMDb
Rick Steves’ Europe – The travel writer icon himself, making you want to book a Euro trip immediately. IMDb
New Europe – Monty Python goes East. Need I say more? IMDb
James May: Our Man in… – Imagine Top Gear’s James May bumbling his way through Japan (or wherever he lands next). IMDb
Most of these (and tons more travel gems) are on Amazon Prime.
